Today I want to elaborate a subject already discussed at a superficial level, that is the choice of a partner, bringing in light psichological notions. The object choice as it is called by psychologists the choice of a partner is influenced by many things that originate mostly in chilhood. I will call this type of object choice, choice through identification. This does not mean that I do not accept Freud's theories about narcisistic and anaclitic object choice but I'm only trying to complete these more than valide theories. We've come to think that Freud's theories about object choice are not valide because we have not experienced a similar choice but they are only incomplete. Maybe we have said to us that we haven't choose a partner similar to us, to what we were once or what we would like to be (therefore is not a narcissistic choice), we haven't choose a partner that is a support to us, or that resembles to our mother or the persons that took care of us as babies (therefore not an anaclitic choice), so, how did we choose? Often in childohood we find ourselves imitating persons and without wanting it we identify with those persons. Those persons have hobbys, charateristics that maybe later we will discover to share, but most important those persons have a partner. Without knowing we will imitate those persons in the object choice, that is, we will find a partner similar to the partner of that person, or a partner that is to us what the partner of that person is to her/him. How do we choose the person to whom identify? It could be a person that we love, a person that we care for, a source of inspiration to us, but it could also be a person that we detest or even hate but a person who is present in our lives and able to influence our personality and our inconscient. Maybe we haven't always hated that person, maybe once we cared for her but then for some reason emerged a breakpoint in our daily life and we rejected the characteristics that acording to us made that person a despicable human being without knowing that at a certain level we were similar. Time passing we identify more and more with that person at a level that can't be explored consciously and the probability of doing a similar object choise grows. Once adults, these ties are hard or even impossible to break. This does not dimishes the significance of love and does not mean that we do not love our partner, it just explain how and why we chose that certain partner.Florehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11803031838664990538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5579038283959928074.post-26346318033441762412011-01-01T08:07:00.000-08:002011-01-01T08:08:55.606-08:002011Happy new year everybody! Double standard is a complex psychological phenomenon that has as cause a large number of mechanisms that work together, individually, in congruence or as antagonistic forces in generating the double standard. These mechanisms are:

stereotypes

preconceptions

secondary benefit

fundamental attribution error

The stereotypes and the preconceptions work in a similar manner: the cognitive maps and prior established diagrams are responsible for the segmentation of our future experiences and when we are confronted with a new stimulus we follow a certain already established path that will lead to a certain case where we will deposit the information related to that specific stimuls. Different stimulus, different cases that result in double standard.
The dynamics of every relationships include benefits for all the participants. Beside the first and obvious benefit there are secondary benefits too, so every action has a reaction. When the reaction or the result of the dynamics involved in double standard become a secondary benefit the probability to sustain that standard becomes stronger.
The fundamental attribution error is a mechanism that allows us to feel better when compared with others. Ex: I passed the exam because I studied, he didn't because he didn't study, I failed the exam because I had bad luck, he passed because he had good luck, so me and all the persons to whom I identify myself are good students when we pass and have bad luck when we fail while the others, different from me, in the situation of a success is lucky and in the situation of failure is a poor student, therefore this is a double standard. The main benefit that the fundamental attribution error brings to us is self gratification.
All these phenomenon as well as the double standard have a common purpose - a high self-esteem level.

Ciao!

Have you ever heard about the double standard? The double standard refers to all sets of principles containing different provisions for one person or one group of people than for another. To explain better this definition I will exemplify, there are persons that in front of two persons of diferent races in case of a crime give the presumption of innocence to the white person but not to the black person that has to prove his/ her innocence. The principles have to be the same for everybody but the double standard alters this pattern and the impartiality principle too. Thus the double standard decribes itself as a bias or a favoritism based on social status, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender or other distinctions. Often, to molify the concerns over double standard people use to say: "life is not fair", but the truth is that to a person that has a double standard should be removed the right to judge. Talking about double standars we should also nominate discrimination, morality and hypocrisy, not synonyms to double standard but connected to it. Soon I will explain what drives a person to have double standars.

Today I'm writting again about music and I chose to talk about an italien boy band who sings a very good music with lyrics that get you carried away immediately and at the end of the song you find youself humming it.

Today I intend to discuss about a subject that in the same time is simple and complex. What is behind the passion for the horror movies? It is not quastionable the positivity or negativity of this passion, just the origins. This idea came to me after having a discussion with a friend about this subject. I don't claim to offer an exhaustive explanation, because a process does not have just one cause, the dynamics of every mechanism is in a relatioship of dependency with the psychologic details of every individual, with the social circle of every person, education, traumas, prior experiences. This things can be debatable for every case in particular, but there are things that happen in every boy's or girl's childhood like the moment when every child becomes aware of the physical differences between sexes. I am talking about the castration complex (anxiety) that happens when a boy finds out that he has something tha the girl does not have. In the case of the boys this generates the castration anxiety, in the case of the girls that already consider themselves castrated generates the pennis envy. The castration anxiety has as basics the fear that forms in the boy's mind that his father will castrate him. The child grows up wanting to be stronger than his father and has many chances to develop tendencies towards machismo and the secret desire of beeing a macho. My observations on the men who prefer this kind of movies is that they are preoccupied with their looks, to seem strong true men to others. This is a normal situation, worrisome is the situation in wich people who like bloody and deathly scenes are persons who have had traumas during their childhood.
In the case of women who developed pennis envy, they want to be strong like men are, to have the same rights, they have a tough behavior, a strong need to have a carrier in the fields dominated by men. To prove their strength they are willing to give up, rinounce their female sensibility and engage in activities and behaviours socialy assigned to men. For further questions please leave a comment.

In my opinion there is a fine line between need and egoism that easily can be oversteped. A satisfied necessity that unfortunately persists creating discomfort and problems to others ins't a necessity any more but becomes a selfish manifestation. When a person uses as escuse a necessity to obtain or to avoid something irrelevant or less relevant for that need, we have again a manifestation of selfishness. This type of egoism is substantially different from the egoism in pure form because is a prepared, planned selfishness that has as main component the intentional deception. How can you recognize this type of egoism? When facing a situation like this, change some aspects and if the necessity desappears without having done anything to eliminate it, you'll know!Florehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11803031838664990538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5579038283959928074.post-328656995784118362009-10-01T07:20:00.000-07:002010-01-22T04:25:51.015-08:00The power of stereotypes
Grazie, Ciao!

I want to begin by explaining what is a stereotype, in a few words a stereotype is a cognitive shortcut based on a previous experience with an element of a group, experience that originated an abstract idea of the object of the experience that later was extrapolated to the entire group to which the object involved belongs to. If in time the same behaviour or feature is noticed in the interactions with the concerned group a streotype is born. A stereotype can be used also by persons that have never had prior concerning experiences, and doesn't have to be necessarily completely true or false. A stereotype remains implemented in the collective memory and is drawn out when a person meets another person belonging to the concernig group. Why is a cognitive shortcut? Because every time a person meets an element of a certain group needs some basic informations that are very usefull for a first experience, before knowing the regarding element. Therefore, a stereotype helps us save mental energy that will later be used in establihing a relation. The use of a stereotype isn't absolutely adviced against or recommended, but is has to be used with caution. In my opinion there are categories of people that should never use stereotypes in certain situations:
- Psychologists with their clients
- Doctors with their patients
- Policemen with citizens
- Teachers with the students
If you think of other categories please write a comment. Summarizing her post, the main ideea is that one has to work for himself, to acquire experience, to make it in life, to build a career, not to prove to others one's abilities and capacities. This necessity that Oana has identified very well as dating back to comunism, is caused by a low self esteem. In a period in which everybody was just another brick in the wall, a period in which the only goal in life was to work for the family and the country, people had lost their personality, their individuality, the only way to be noticed by others was to do well the things that were allowed and most of all let others know how good are you at what you're doing. A person that can't see himself different from others, that does not manage to individuate a personal path in his life, will have a low self esteem, therefore to raise his self esteem level he will have to prove to himself and to others that he is different in what all the others are similar. Hence, this person will have a special relation with work, his work will be his entire life, it will replace family, friends, it will be his only subject in a discussion. Always letting know his friends, familiy, neighbours, how and how much he is working, this person hopes to prove how good and capable he is, but he is also trying to obtain their admiration and compassion.
One has to work for the right reasons because this is the only way one will have the feeling of gratification, of a fulfilled and achieved life.

Mass violence is more damaging that the violence acomplished by the same people alone with the victim. How is this situation possible? In a mass attack is not possible to identify the actions of every man, thus is impossible to punish every person and every attack. Therefore, in a mass violence situation the damages made by every man can't be sigle out and everyone's responsability can't be established with certitude. The perpetrators, aware of this situation become more violent, and the barbarity of his accomplice incites him to reach and overcome him. In this moment appears a vicious circle because the brutality of everyone incites more the others. The adrenalin level rises so the cessation of violent acts becomes more improbable and distant. Understanding this phenomenon is the first step.

For this persons the happiness of a son will never be a moment of joy but one of anxiety.

Friedrich Nietzsche (La Gaia Scienza)

"I like the uncertainty of the future and I don't want to die with the anxiety of things expected or promised."
Friedrich Nietzsche (The Gay Science)

I believe that the anxiety caused by an expected or promised thing generates strenght and will to face the next day when life gets tough.

The respect is an important value, an instrument of civilization that is formed in different manners and this precise thing manages his durability. There is a type of respect, long lasting and ever growing that forms itself, thanks to the qualities and capacities of the person who inspires respect. Then, there are persons that don't have the necessary abilities to stir up the real respect, and invoke the label that is age, social status, hierarchy or financial superiority. This type of respect is never sincere, is forced and disappears at the earliest opportunity. The respect inspired by the way of thinking, of being, reacting, understanding and creating of the person never dies and survives the fisical entity of the person.

What is that decides the durability and the succes of a love relationship? What is that builds the way to answer our partner? In a certain way, how we behave in a relatioship is established by the parental patterns. The truth is, that in a relationship, especially in the difficult moments, we act in the same way that our parents did. We reproduce the same behavior that as a child we saw in our home, we yell, cry, withdraw or run in front of the difficulties. These attitudes become dangerous when we did not have as example a strong relationship, because instead of trying to find solutions we chose to elude arguments or to run away from difficult situations. We have to think that our children do not inherit from us just the eye's and hair's colour or the inclination towards a certain field, but also our way of interacting in a couple.Florehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11803031838664990538noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5579038283959928074.post-72614850063754393902008-06-03T08:21:00.000-07:002010-01-25T14:30:38.544-08:00Grazie

The world is everything we want it to be.
